From its inception, Plant Today has been about relationships.  In 2007, brothers-in-law Mike Medley and Jim Moehsmer felt a tremendous burden for the underserved of society, those often forgotten or ignored.  Plant Today began as a way to help with both physical and spiritual needs, in recognition of God’s Word telling us to first feed the hungry, then they would be ready to receive His message.  The Foundation was incorporated as a not-for-profit entity in January 2008, and received its federal 501(c)(3) status in July 2008.

Relationships with those involved in a faith-based migrant day labor center in the West Palm Beach area led to relationships with the people in a small village in Guatemala, called San Pedro Las Huertas.  Over the past few years, Plant Today has helped provide improved water facilities; eye glass clinics; a church plant and a feeding program for children in a ghetto area; fire rescue training for a volunteer fire department; and a variety of other community outreaches.

In Florida, relationships with parents of special needs children led to the development of the equine outreach.  Solely by word of mouth, the program has quickly grown to 30 students and 7 horses.

Plant Today encompasses a three-part vision.   First, foreign outreaches to those in such places as Guatemala.  Second, the riding program.  Third, tying the three parts into one, a facility to house the riding program and provide a base for international outreaches, while also serving as a respite for another group of underserved, those in our society who have become burned out and hurting from the everyday rigors of life.  These may include pastors and missionaries needing to “recharge” before resuming ministry, or lay people encountering overwhelming circumstances in life.  Depending on the situation, the facility would provide either short-term living arrangements or the opportunity to come on a daily basis and interact with the animals and children.

God is shaping Plant Today into a specific vision limited only by His imagination. He has made it clear that we can do nothing without prayer; can go forth only with His direction and in His timing; and are to build lasting relationships as the hallmark of the Foundation.
